| Bhopal, Aug 31: A journey of thousand miles must begin with a single step. As a medium of ensuring that every poor child gets the chance to undertake the journey towards future, Aham Bhumika (meaning Important Role), an NGO, has come up with the novel initiative of collecting used and old cycles from the people and donating them to poor school children.
Aham Bhumika took a humble step almost a year back when Subrat Goswami, along with his friends, put a concerted effort to make 'Donate Old Bicycle Campaign' a success on August 15, 2009. The Bhopal based NGO collected 38 bicycles and donated them to Aganwadi centers and the students of Government Middle School
The NGO has now come quite a long way in its errand to better the lives of the underprivileged children in and around Bhopal. In its consistent endeavor to reach out to the poor children Aham Bhumika has been arranging several such campaigns since 2009.
Be it the distribution of clothes to the Anganwadi children of village Mahabadia and Kalapani to donation of clothes and toys to the tribal children of Mayur School in Bodakho village, the ones associated with the NGO have been doing their bit to help the children not getting deprived of dignifying clothing.
In a bid to save thousands of starved people, the NGO has decided to establish Grain Bank. Still in its rudimentary stage, the Grain Bank aims at serving the aged widows and the orphans and the disabled ones. They will also be encouraged to enroll themselves to the schools and vocational training that matches with their aptitude.
Aham Bhumika invites volunteers to be a part of this noble plan. People can spread the word contribute grain in whatever amount they can afford. Remember, even a handful of rice can save a starving soul.
The NGO has set its eye on certain other programmes for the future. During the course of 'Joy of Giving week' observed from 26 September to 02 October, the volunteers will collect wheat, rice & pulses from the corporate companies, as well as common people of Bhopal.
