| New Delhi: Chief Minister of Delhi Sheila Dikshit, Union Ministers Sriprakash Jaiswal and Virbhadra Singh have asked the different news media to implement additional caution while reporting sensational news or any breaking news in a rush. The hurriedness might hamper the media credibility, if the news is proved to be vague or a wrong one.
The ministers said that the both the electronic and web media industry try to provide breaking news for increasing their popularity and readership. Sometimes they do it without confirming the authenticity of the sources. This creates trouble later if the news is proved to be fabricated. In this case a mere apology will not reverse the harm done. Therefore, the ministers have directed the media industry to check the sources carefully before giving any breaking news in a rush.
The rising competition has forced the news channels and portals to provide breaking news as fast as they can ahead of the others; a practice that often causes them to violate the basic codes and ethics of journalistic. |
