| New Delhi: Various sex workers as well as organizations, which are involved with their welfare and overall improvement, have been bolstered by the opinion of the Supreme Court of India that the age old profession of prostitution be recognized by law and as such have been advocating the same.
Sex workers, who operate at Garstin Bastion, which is the major red light district of New Delhi, are of the opinion that if their profession is approved by law it would put an end to various problems that they face like being exploited by anti social elements. It would also improve the quality of their life.
Activists who have been working on their behalf have been making plans to come up with a letter to the central government whereby they can press their claims and garner support for themselves. (IANS)
These groups have also highlighted the several benefits being able to function in a properly authenticated profession. If the profession is legalised the prostitutes would be able to have a proper license in addition to valid health cards. This would also enable them to lead a proper social life. |
