| New Delhi: The National Human Rights Commission has hauled up the Government Railway Police (GRP) for two of its personnel reportedly having pushed out of a moving train a pregnant woman and her child travelling without ticket, and has sought an explanation from the GRP inspector general in Lucknow.
An official of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) issued a notice to the inspector general of GRP, and asked him to submit a report on the incident within four weeks. The woman died on the spot.
"The media reports alleged that two constables of the Government Railway Police (GRP) pushed a pregnant woman along with her three-year-old daughter from a moving train for failing to pay them a bribe of Rs.100 after she was caught travelling without a ticket," the NHRC notice to the GRP inspector general said.
"While the woman died on the spot, her daughter - who was in her mother's lap - escaped. This is a gross violation of human rights," a NHRC official said.(IANS) |
