Integral Coach Factory, Chennai is often called ICF. It is a famous production unit of rail coaches. This factory is located in Perambur, which is a suburb near Chennai, India. Being an ISO-9000 and ISO-14000 certified company, Integral Coach Factory Chennai has its own development and rail coach design wing to produce all the sophisticated as well as modern structure of rail coaches.

As a manufacturer of designer railway coaches, this production unit has become a popular factory across the nation. Apart from India, it also manufactures coaches for many other foreign companies which are Taiwan, Burma, Thailand, Philippines, Vietnam, Uganda, Nigeria, Zambia, Tanzania, Bangladesh, and Mozambique.

History:

Integral Coach Factory, Chennai was founded in the year 1951 with the help of M/s Swiss Car and Elevator Manufacturing Corporation Limited, Switzerland. In the year 1955, this company was inaugurated by the former Prime Minister of India Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. At the initial stages, this factory manufactured total seven third class railway coach shells.

Production Information:

With the demand for designer coaches, nowadays the Integral Coach Factory, Chennai manufactures more than 1100 railway coaches of wide varieties. 1000 coaches are the maximum production capacity of ICF in a year. But a recent report says, between the years 2007 to 2008; Integral Coach Factory, Chennai (ICF) unit has created a record by manufacturing total 1291 passenger coaches for the railways. The total number of employees working in Integral Coach Factory, Chennai is around 13000 persons.

This famous coach factory offers a wide selection of different railway coaches for the Indian Railways. Indian Railways is the main customer of products manufacturing in this production unit. Apart from the primarily first and second class railway coaches, the Integral Coach Factory, Chennai also produces several other railway related products which include-
