| New Delhi: It is not surprising any more to find the MPs spending lakhs and crores on their hotel bills. Another such instance was observed recently as Trinamool Congress leader and Union minister Sultan Ahmed's bill, who stayed in the five-star Hotel Ashok came to a whooping Rs 37 lakh.
He moved out of the hotel after he was asked by his party members to pay the extra expenses from his own account. While talking to the media, Ahmed refused to give details of his expenses but added that he is making preparations to pay the bills.
Ahmed reasoned that government had allotted an official bungalow for him just few days back and therefore he was staying in the hotel as per officials' advice.
Trinamool Congress Lok Sabha chief Sudip Bandopadhyay said that the minister of state for tourism has been asked to pay for all the extra expenses. He further added that tourism ministry officials misguided him by asking him to put up at Ashok Hotel.
Sources reveal Ahmed has staying in a luxury category business suite for almost six months. The usual room rent is Rs 20,000 per night. The room was given to the MoS at a rate of Rs 7,000 a night. |
