| Mumbai: After Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar failed to convince Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray to allow the Australian players in Indian Premier League(IPL), it was BCCI's (Board of Control for Cricket in India) turn to take the matters into its hand. According to the report, BCCI Chairman Shashank Manohar has sent a letter of request to Bal Thackeray to plead with him to allow the Aussie players to take part in the upcoming IPL season 3.
Shiv Sena, however, went to a farther extent by making the letter public. The letter was published in the Sena's mouthpiece, Saamna.
Bal Thackeray had been firm on his stance of not allowing Australians in Maharashtra during the IPL as a retribution against the repeated attacks against Indians in Australia. It was on Monday that Shiv Sena had reiterated this threat.
On the other side, Australian players, who are roped in for the Deccan Chargers stated their decision to wait for a week before deciding whether to pull out of IPL. Later, they threatened to call IPL an end.
It was only on Tuesday evening that Thackeray had reconsidered his decision and declared that he would not object to Australia's participation in IPL 3. |
