New Delhi: Minister of State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor's candid remarks about austerity on Twitter has incensed Congress. When Mr Tharoor was asked if he will travel in cattle class the next time he travels to Kerala, he retorted back saying, "Absolutely, in cattle class out of solidarity with all our holy cows."

The Congress today vehemently protested his remarks and asserted that party high command will decide if a disciplinary action is to be taken against him for making such unacceptable comments. Congress spokesperson Jayanthi Natarajan added that his comments was disrespectful towards political or any other sensibilities.

It was since the last that Congress and the government had started an austerity drive. Earlier this month, Tharoor and External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna were urged to move out of five-star hotels, where they had been staying for over three months.
