| New Delhi: On Friday the Prime Minister of India, Manmohan Singh, asked all his colleagues in the cabinet to present a report of performance that he would be monitoring personally. He has set the deadline on 30th November.
This has been done by the PM in order to judge the ministers. The message has been conveyed to all the ministers in forms of letters written by KM Chandrashekhar, the Cabinet Secretary. They have been asked to provide these reports on a personal basis. Majority of the ministers, such as MS Gill, the Sports Minister and Vilasrao Deshmukh, are in favor of this move.
They have reasoned that this portrays a good image of the UPA. This, as per their opinion, also indicates that they would be duty bound to perform. However, there are different opinions as well. For instance Farooq Abdullah has said that votes are what matter in the end.
He revealed that he is not yet aware of such developments. This particular act by Manmohan Singh assumes significance in the context of the fact that the national government would be asked to go back on its track on the sugarcane issue when the winter session of the parliament kicked off.
