Kolkata: The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) today demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the allegedly illegal manner 123 contract workers were made permanent in the Kolkata Metro Railway.

"We will write to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh telling him about this. We would also seek CBI enquiry," former Parliamentary Standing Committee for Railways chairperson and senior CPI-M leader Basudeb Achariya told a press conference here.

"The railway minister gave no advertisement in newspapers or issued notice through the employment exchange," he said. "We have never seen such anomalies in the railways. It's shocking and needs to be investigated."

The CPI-M also released a 50-page document explaining the details of these 123 illegally recruited workers. (IANS)
