| Lucknow: After her memorial parks across Lucknow landed her in trouble, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and BSP leader Mayawati is now facing another imposing problem due to these hundreds of statues of elephants.
It is to be noted that elephant is the symbol of Bahujan Samaj Party headed by Mayawati.
Interim, the Supreme Court has given the Election Commission three months to decide if these elephant statues violate its poll code. Ravi Kant, the lawyer who has registered a case against Mayawati over her statues, stated that the petition has been filed regarding the wastage of public money and installation of BSP symbols in the forms of statues.
Supreme Court has also studied the memorials to Dalit icons. It has been reported that the parks, for which about Rs 2000 crores was spent, have come from the taxpayers' money. The court has repeatedly condemned Mayawati for over approving the expenditure in a state assembly.
Earlier in September, the Supreme Court had ordered Mayawati to stop construction work on these memorials, but later it was discovered that Mayawati government actually violated the court's orders. |
