Lucknow, April 17: Uttar Pradesh's ruling Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) on Saturday decided to flush out the criminal elements in its rank and file - three days after a party leader was gunned down in broad daylight.

An announcement to this effect was made at a day-long meeting of the party’s district chiefs and coordinators, addressed by party supremo Mayawati's close confidante and multiple portfolio minister Naseemuddin Siddiqui here.

"The party chief has resolved to rid the BSP of all criminal and anti-social elements in the party latest by the end of the month," Siddiqui told the gathering, adding the party leadership would not tolerate the presence of any outlaws in the party.

The move follows the broad daylight killing of party leader Hanuman Sharan Shukla at a BSP demonstration in Gonda Wednesday. Even as Shukla was officially disowned by the party leadership, Siddiqui made it a point to draw the attention of partymen to the bad name the Gonda killing had given to the BSP. (IANS)
