| New Delhi, Aug 31: The Rajya Sabha was today adjourned sine die after the house passed the bill to hike salaries of MPs and referred the prevention of torture bill to a select committee.
Chairman Hamid Ansari adjourned the house sine die at the conclusion of day's business that included a statement by External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna on India's flood aid to Pakistan and clarifications by Home Minister P. Chidambaram to his statement on alleged diversion of funds meant for welfare of scheduled castes and scheduled tribes to Commonwealth Games projects by the Delhi government.
Terming the work transacted by the house in the course of the session as "impressive", the chairman, in his concluding remarks, expressed concern over the loss of question hour on eight occasions and loss of five days when no business was transacted due to disruptions.
The monsoon session of Parliament commenced July 26 and was scheduled to end on Aug 27. It was later extended till Aug 31. (IANS) |
