Satish Sharma gets Congress ticket for Rajya Sabha polls

New Delhi, May 31: The Congress today announced nomination of Captain Satish Sharma for the biennial Rajya Sabha elections from Uttar Pradesh.

"Sonia Gandhi has approved the name of Captain Satish Sharma as Congress candidate for the biennial elections to the Rajya Sabha from Uttar Pradesh," party leader Oscar Fernandes said in a statement here.

Congress sources said the party leaders were in discussions with the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) headed by Ajit Singh for its support for Sharma's nomination.

Congress has 20 legislators and RLD has 10 members in the 403-member Uttar Pradesh assembly.

Party sources said Congress is hopeful of Sharma's election with support from the RLD and some Independent legislators. (IANS)
