New Delhi: In view of rising cases of domestic violence against women, a parliamentary committee is examining the rules framed to implement a law to protect women from such violence and has invited suggestions from experts.

The Committee on Subordinate Legislation of the Rajya Sabha, headed by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Najma A. Heptulla, is examining the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Rules, 2006.

The rules were framed to implement the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005, and provide legal remedies to women.

"The need for the examination of the rules was felt necessary in the light of increasing incidence of domestic violence and the accused being able to take benefit of the loopholes in it," said a notification issued by the Rajya Sabha Secretariat today.

The committee has invited suggestions from individuals, organisations, institutions and experts on the efficacy of the rules. (IANS)
