New Delhi: The Rajya Sabha was adjourned for the day today following the death of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP S. Acharya. Acharya, 80, had been ailing for some time and died at 1.45 a.m. today, a family member said. The house, which was supposed to adjourn sine die today, will, however, meet on Tuesday to hear an expected statement from Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the outcome of the Copenhagen climate submit.
Before the adjournment, Rajya Sabha Chairman Hamid Ansari paid tributes to Acharya.
Rajya Sabha is also likely to pass two bills, one relating to salaries and allowances of ministers and the other for constitution of commercial divisions in high court, which have already been passed by the Lok Sabha. (IANS) |
