Meira Kumar to visit Bhutan

New Delhi, May 21: A high-level parliamentary delegation, led by Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar, will visit Bhutan on May 26. Kumar has been invited by the Bhutanese National Assembly Speaker Tshogton Jigme Tshultim, parliament officials said here today.

Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Sushma Swaraj will also be part of the delegation which includes Congress MP Girija Vyas, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MP Ranjitsingh Mohite Patil, Janata Dal-United's Vishwamohan Kumar, Mirza Mehboob Beg of the National Conference and Pyare Mohan Mahapatra of the Biju Janata Dal.

"The speaker will address the fifth session of the Bhutan National Assembly on May 28," an official said.

The delegation will meet Bhutanese Prime Minister Jigmi Thinley, the leader of the opposition and other senior leaders.

"An Indo-Bhutan parliamentary friendship group is likely to be formed during the speaker's visit," the official added. (IANS)
