Former Punjab CM blames Haryana for floods in Punjab

Chandigarh, July 14: Former Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh came down heavily on Haryana for illegally constructing Hansi-Butana link canal. Singh believes that construction of the canal was the primary cause for the flood in Punjab.

While addressing a press conference, Singh stated that The Hansi Butana canal was illegally constructed by Haryana in 2006 although the matter was pending before the Supreme Court.

Singh also added that the Eradi Commission issue regarding water dispute between Punjab and Haryana is still pending before the Supreme Court. He also accused Haryana government of going ahead with its plan to construct the canal despite repeated protests from Punjab.

The former Punjab CM claimed that Hrayana government didn’t even know the quantum of water available for the canal.

Blaming Haryana government for ignoring the concerns of the Central Water Commission, Singh rued the fact that his government had taken up the issue with Haryana but to no avail.
