| Hyderabad: They have not yet recovered from the horrors of flood and now the fear of epidemic has started to seep in. Four districts of Andhra Pradesh are running high on the probability of getting affected by epidemic. Courtesy, pile of garbage and carcasses, which have not been cleared in many towns and villages.
According to the health officials, clean-up operation needs to be given the top priority in the flood-affected areas of Andhra Pradesh. Although the medical camps in Vijaywada are working overtime to bring situation under control, the present circumstance is still grim.
There have been reports of children suffering from fever, skin infections and other water-borne diseases after staying in an unhygienic surrounding with the floodwaters submerging many parts of Vijayawada city and nearby areas of Krishna district.
Districts like Kurnool, Mahbubnagar and Guntur are suffering the same fate.
The residents of these four states are concerned about the consequences that might befall them once the water recedes completely. With more than thousands of animals lying dead and the rescue workers have not been able to clear off the carcasses hidden under the water, this may lead to the outbreak of an epidemic.
The Municipal Commissioner of Vijayawada expressed his anxiety that animal bodies may have disturbed the water supply lines which were under water. He also highlighted the necessity to take adequate safety precautions to ensure that the drinking water is safe. |
