Mumbai, May 4: Mumbai's suburban train drivers called off their strike today 36 hours after they started it, bringing relief to millions of commuters. Nearly 1,000 Mumbai train drivers decided to end the strike following intervention of Maharashtra Home Minister R.R. Patil. Patil told mediapersons that the government would sympathetically consider the demands of the drivers, or motormen. Patil also said that no action would be taken against those motormen who have been suspended from duty today and they would resume work from 6 p.m.
The motormen are demanding better pay and facilities. (IANS) |
