WIFW offers general comfort, safety in urbane style

New Delhi: The spring/summer edition of India's premium business-to-business style event Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WIFW), which started on Wednesday, has raised its own bar by emphasising on comfort, luxury and safety for participating designers and visitors. Event organiser Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) has introduced two new concepts this time - an elevated area in the main lobby and a system of locking the stalls in the exhibition area. "This is an effort to bring in the best business in a practical way. The safety issue was an important concern for the designers, so we have provided them with cabins that can be locked, so that they can focus more on business rather than waste three hours just in doing up theirs stall every morning," FDCI president Sunil Sethi said. "Everything has been created to attract buyers and to make things easy for designers as well," he explained of the new and renewed look of the venue.

About the elevated area, where several mannequins clad in white outfits are displayed, Sethi said, "This is a theatrical representation of fashion where mannequins are wearing plain clothes. With this concept, we want to convey that you don't have to be colourful to look beautiful. It's just an idea."

Unlike the last time, the stalls are structured, uniform and well-defined cubicles with a display window to showcase outfits and accessories. About the new locking system, designer Kavita Bhartia said, "This time, importance has been given to safety which is a major concern for us. We have windows where we can display our outfits and a good sized cabin that can be locked. We can decorate the interior of the cabin the way we want to and not be worried about safety when we are away." The new ambience gave her a "happy feeling", Bhartia added.
