Movie Review (Posted on: Jan 13, 2010)
What comes to your mind first when you choose your partner – looks or intelligence? Jugal Hansraj’s Pyaar Impossible is a tribute to all those geeks who hide themselves inside the cocoon in the fear of being rejected. Uday Chopra (read Abhay Sharma), a geek with a nerdy look, narrates the story of his life and love. Priyanka Chopra alias Alisha, has always been his love but Abhay feels himself so undeserving and insignificant that he fails to bare his heart before the most charming lady of the college.

Now, the story moves on with Abhay hoping against hope to draw her love’s attention towards him, whichever way possible and he only meets with disappointments. The sheer optimism in Abhay and his clinging nature did not quite fade away with the passage of time and even after seven long years we find him the same devoted admirer of Alisha.
In the midst of an unrequited love story, the sub-plot makes its entry with a theft case. Abhay loses the second love of his life (developing software) to a self-claimed ‘businessman’ Dino Morea (read Varun). It took just two minutes for Varun to steal Abhay’s reward from him. Completely crestfallen, Abhay decides to venture forth and fight for his rights – for the first time in his uneventful life.
Be it the desperate attempt of Abhay to impress her lady love Alisha or the matured involvement of a sweet and bubbly girl named Tania in helping him out, the film highlights the true essence of love – anything for the sake of it. It is a double challenge for Abhay who has to win the heart of Alisha and get back the rights he has been robbed off. His decent performance makes the character look realistic. Priyanka has done a fair job in the film and it is her beauty and elite personality that make Abhay’s efforts to win her worth watching.
Except the sense of ‘getting-it-done-quickly’, Pyaar Impossible can be tagged as another unique love story from the Yash Chopra Banner. Prudent use of guitar is to be appreciated although the rock fusion did not quite churn out a tune that you would love to hum later. Some scenes supposed to be comic did not quite evoke that humorous spirit perhaps because of not-so-strong punch lines.
The message of the film – nothing is impossible to achieve if you have set your heart upon it, could have possibly been a major success had the director Jugal Hansraj excluded the commonalities. Uday Chopra the writer did etch out a different story on pursuit of love, but a better hold on screenplay was left wanting.
