After the success of Khosla Ka Ghosla, director Dibakar Banerjee returns with Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!. This director has a secret love for Delhi and Delhiites. The movie is a story of Lucky Singh (played by Abhay Deol). Born to a lower middle class Sikh family, Lucky is deprived of many things in life. His father (played by Paresh Rawal) has taken another woman and is not interested in supporting his family, except providing them with shelter. So a young Lucky (brilliantly played by Manjot Singh) wants to have a healthy way of life and that is how his introduction to the life of crime begins.
His modus operandi is to outsmart people, chowkidars and policemen with his sharp mind and wit. The best bit is that he is never seen using guns or weapons, his only weapon is his presence of mind. He rises to become one of the most wanted master thieves of India with tens of millions worth loot, a glamorous lifestyle, cars, women, and a fan following.
The film seems to have been inspired by a real life Super thief Devender aka Bunty, now awaiting trial in Jail. Bunty was famous not only for fleecing money and jewellery but even watches, Scotch bottles and Kashmiri carpets and cutlery as well.
Despite its main character being a klepto by profession, the film is so beautifully cast that the characters seem to be living their life outside the reel roles. The plot weaves itself into finer sensitivities of life. To sum up, the film promises to be yet another light-hearted entertainer and is worth a dekko.
