Love Aaj Kal Review
Movie Review
(Posted on: July 13, 2009)

Love Aaj Kal is a love treat, high on calorie and a staunch multiplex movie. It has every element to augment the entertainer to the level of a blockbuster. But then it does not mean that fresh soundtrack, stars, romance and subtle kisses can do the trick. Everything depends on the execution, and all credit goes to Imtiaz Ali for he has extracted sensitive performances from the main cast. He discusses about affection surpassing times.

Love Aaj Kal is not like other boring mushy movies and rather it is on your face and ferociously honest. In the movie, two different love stories are set in different eras, which tend to have similar endings. The plot is novel and offbeat. Watching Saif Ali Khan enacting two different roles, was a treat. In the movie, he plays his own part as well as the character of young Rishi Kapoor. But the abrupt transitions, combining two different love stories, no doubt would end up confusing audiences.

Love Aaj Kal ReviewThe movie did start with loads of expectations but ended up bluntly. In the whole movie one was compelled to think, what Deepika and Saif actually want in life? On and off break ups, meetings and separations, left the movie buffs baffled. It might not appeal to all sections of movie buffs, because of its complex screenplay.

Due to its narrative, the first half fails to create any impact, but the second half is the heart of the film, as it engages the audiences completely. Watch out for the scenes where Deepika tries to flaunt a fake smile to come out of a broken relationship, or Deepika's and Saif's conversation at the former's marriage. There are also emotionally high moments such as, Saif finding it hard to concentrate on his work and his life in US, and Deepika realizing on the second day of her marriage that marrying someone else was her mistake. These are the moments where you empathize with the characters.

Love Aaj Kal Review

Saif, is again out with one of his brilliant performances. He carries the most difficult and demanding scenes remarkably like a pro. Deepika looks very graceful. The former model has given the best performance of her career. Rahul Khanna too did well, in his small yet important role. Rishi Kapoor, has contributed well in the film's narration. But the ending sequence having Neetu Singh was a delight. She is aging with elegance.

Pritam has done an outstanding job with the soundtracks, which flatter the going ons very well. They are in sync with the situations. Besides that, choreography by Ashley Lobo, Bosco Martis, Caesar Gonsalves, Saroj Khan is wonderful. Cinematography by Subramaniam and editing by Aarti Bajaj too deserve acclaim.

In total, Love Aaj Kal is an unconventional yet romantic-at-heart flick. It will surely make you fall for your beloved all over again and value them even more.
