Movie Review (Posted on: July 03, 2009) Commercial in its appeal, Kambakkht Ishq is a mindless romantic comedy of the year. Post Tashan, the movie brings Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor together, yet again for the seventh time onscreen. With big names involved and an upbeat commercial masala appeal, the movie was sky high on expectations. It had everything, right from the “Hollywood meets Bollywood” theme, to special cameos by Hollywood celebrities, to stupendous performances by Akshay and Kareena, toppled with beautiful locations. After a long time the movie goers enjoyed an out an out spicy commercial flick. The storyline was quite cliche but the USP of the movie was nonetheless the stunts scenes performed by our very own Akki, in a truly international style.
The movie is a little illogical at some points. The derogatory comments towards men and women, were not amusing. But since the storyline was all about battle of sexes, the gender based abuses and humiliating comments, were justified to some extent.

Viraj Shergill, played by Akshay Kumar, is a Hollywood stunt man, who gets an adrenaline rush by performing stunts. He splurges money heavily on women and parties and stay miles away from commitment and marriage. Simrita Rai, played by Kareena Kapoor, on the other hand is a staunch feminist who hates men and perceives them as big time losers. The fun starts when both the protagonists meet at the marriage of Kamini and Sunny, and are hell bent on stopping them from doing so. The battle of sexes fuels, two people who are poles apart from each other, are thrown in the most weirdest of situations.

The abuses are hurdled at each other and to massage their egos, they both decides to hit back. Akshay, as usual is at his best and the punchlines delivered by him are rib tickling. Kareena who dons an understated yet chic and classic look plays the role of staunch man hater with elan. Amrita Arora and Aftab Shivdasani too did full justice to their characters. The entertainment quotient is elevated with the special cameos of Sylvester Stallone, our very own superman - Brandon Routh and the diva Denise Richards. The show was jazzed up by John Rambo, who was in its full action packed avatar, leaving the audiences craving for more. Denise and Brandon play themselves in the movie.
Kirron Kher, Javed Jaffery and Boman Irani pops up in between to add zing to the storyline. The music of the movie lives up to its commercial appeal, specially “om mangalam” which is composed by RDB. The number is foot tapping and is already ruling the charts. Other songs “Lakh lakh”, “Kyun”, “Bebo” and the title track, are extremely catchy and high on fun quotient. The cinematography is superb capturing the minor details of the beautiful locations. Shabina Khan and Aki Narula's experimentations with costumes, has spread kaleidoscope of colors on screen.
Watch out for how kicks turned into kisses.
