Jashnn Review
Movie Review
(Posted on: July 13, 2009)

Jashnn - the music lies within.... exactly, the sole thing which was missing in the movie. The biggest disappointment was the music itself, garnished disastrously with an abrupt climax. How can a participant of a reality show be insulted so vehemently in public? How can a cold and shrewd biz big shot's heart melt in a matter of five musical minutes? These questions should be better left unanswered. Moreover, the predictable story line and on and off relationships, makes it even more snappy.

Ignoring the above mentioned disasters, lets concentrate on the performances. Adhyayan Suman, a wannabe star, plays the role convincingly. He lacks the star presence but carries the film on his shoulders with his honest act. And yes the performance which deserves a round of applause is, the sister who choose to be the mistress of the rich and powerful businessman, to provide his brother a decent lifestyle, played by Sahana Goswami. She isn't the usual mistress who sobs and cries for her deeds, rather reveals the practical side.

Jashnn ReviewJashnn dwells into the life of a dreamer, Akash, played by Adhyayan Suman, whose funda in life is simple yet impressive, "the day my dreams die, i will die." A hot-headed, brash and romantic. His problems are heightened by a disruptive environment at home. Although he is a dreamer, but is ineffective to discover a voice of his own which can help him to stand out in the crowd. His life comes to a standstill, when he faces the bitter truth, that the girl he loves is the sister of the person he hates the most. The story is about his earnestness, and how he struggles to overcome his inhibitions.

The plot lacks grip in the second half. The first half was captivating and concentrates more on the relationship of the brother-sister duo. The conflicts and the practical confrontations do not generate a sense of familiarity simply because of its rustic approach. The sensibilities are natural and the agony is not dealt with previously.

Jashnn Review

Watch out for few gripping scenes, apart from the raw conflicts between the siblings. When Adhyayan tries to steal the purse of the lady in the bar, to pay his bill or when he scribbles a sorry letter at the office of the biz honcho, so that his sister can pay their bills, or when Humayun Sayeed, treats Sahana like a commodity, pays no heed to her emotions and her desire to marry him. The truth is naked and on your face.

“Jashnn” mainly concentrates on the bro-sis relationship. The love story of Adhyayan and Anjana, somewhat fades out in ambiguity, as compared to it. Humayun Saeed, rolls out an impressive debut with his act of a cold and ruthless big shot. Anjana Sukhani, did justice to the character of a vibrant and fun loving girl who is madly in love with Adhyayan.

The women characters in Mahesh Bhatt movies are always strong and striking. Jashnn, in a warm story telling manner reveals the life story of a phoenix who gradually emerge from its downfalls. The only disappointment is the audio tracks, not the usual Mahesh Bhatt type.
