'Dasvidaniya' – for all our readers could seem strange, however, it is a
virtue to 'bid adieu' and that too in Russian. Released on this Friday, the
film is directed by Shashant Shah and boasts of some hilarious performances
by Vinay Pathak, Rajat Kapoor and Sarita Joshi.
The plot revolves around simpleton Amar Kaul (Vinay Pathak) who gets
diagnosed with stomach cancer. As a matter of fact, he has hardly few months
left of his life. He soon realizes that till now he has wasted his life and
decides to fulfill his long cherished dreams and aspirations in the last
days of his life. He comes up with a 10 Point formula and eventually makes
all of them come true. He brings a new car, expresses his love for his
childhood friend Neha (Neha Dupia) who is now married, goes on a foreign
trip and plans to meet his childhood friend, settled abroad. The film
summaries that what are those things that one would like to do when life
comes to an end.
The film could seem inspired from Hrishikesh Mukherjee's 'Anand'. Although
the narration and treatment to the subject are quite different. The movie
has some impeccable scenes and moments when one gets captured by sheer
brilliance of Vinay Pathak, the man himself. But overall, it becomes quite
slow in the proceeding and ends up being almost predictable. Also, the
direction is just average.
Ranvir Shorrey leaves his mark in a cameo. Rajat Kapoor excels in his
performance. Stage veteran Sarita Joshi as Vinay's mother is quite good.
Saurabh Shukla as Vinay's boss and Gaurav Ghera as Vinay's brother are also
good. Music by Kailash Kher is distinct and two of the movie's songs could
be said to have been composed really well.
Not stretching it too far, the film is good in patches and viewers must give
it a try.
