Baabarr Review
Movie Review
(Posted on: Sept 11, 2009)

Violence, brutality, bloodshed rule the plot of one of the powerful film released this year - Baabarr. This is surely not for the faint-hearted. Set in Uttar Pradesh, Baabarr belongs the genre of Satya and Parinda. But of late the tale of an 'innocent ruling the world of crime' type of gangster flicks have been ruled out by the audiences. Still Baabarr has managed to make a mark.

It shows how a gun plays a major role in the lives of gangsters and that crime only changes roles but never ends. It depicts the nexus between the cops, politicians and gangsters. The sequences are barbarous which might keep a section of audiences at bay.

A must watch experience courtesy its strong script and narration. A 12-year-old boy in cold blood kills a man with a country made gun His eyes are without any emotion and his heart displays no anguish. He walks the streets of Aman Ganj sans any fear after shooting the person in broad daylight. Everyone present in the market watches this young boy walk without any fear.

The boy infringed every barrier of crime. From the streets of Aman Ganj this young lad terrorized everyone for 10 years. Right from the common man to the government, his reign of fear traumatized everyone in the state. The young lad-turned-gangster was Baabarr [Sohum Shah]. The government appointed an encounter specialist S.P. Dwivedi [Mithun Chakraborty] to put an end to Baabarr's brutalities. The summon was simple fetch him or kill him.

The only negative aspects of the movie is its ferociousness and sequences which are not in good taste. But nonetheless it surely leaves an impact. The edgy dialogues add to the narrative. With twists and turns the sequence which stands out is the climax one. You blink and you miss the flow. It keeps your eyes wide open and you at the edge of your seats, throughout.

Baabarr Review

The technicians deserves acclaim for such a cult movie. Ashuu Trikha at his treatment of dramatic sequences has come up with one of his best works. Action scenes by Abbas Ali Moghul and cinematography Suhass Gujarathi have made the scenes look true to life.

Soham is the new face in Baabarr and its USP. He makes the character looks more real and delivers an excellent performance so much so that if given to a lesser actor the film would have lost its charm. Mithun Chakraborty and Om Puri stand out. Tinnu Anand and Shakti Kapoor were back with a bang and after watching them one wonders – where they had been all this while?

The female protagonist Urvashi Sharma plays her part convincingly. Sushant Singh, Mukesh Tiwari and Govind Namdeo were perfect. Making an impact in small roles were Vivek Shauq, Vishwajeet Pradhan and Pratima Kazmi.

Baabarr is powerful and alluring. The violence depicted too has reason behind it. This flick is sure to work at box office.
