Mohit Suri, the director of Kalyug and Woh Lamhe, has come up this time with an action packed emotional thriller, 'Awarapan'. The movie, however, proves to be a one-time watch only. For those who think that the story line of 'Awarapan' is an original creation of the director and his team, here is a surprise. The film actually borrows storyline from the Korean movie - 'A Bittersweet Life.' The movie takes up the real life issue of human trafficking and revolves around the story of a man fighting painful remenances of his past. 'Awarapan' all about Shivam, played by Emraan Hashmi, the shooter of a gangster in Hong Kong and Mallik, the gangster, played by Ashutosh Rana. Mallik assigns Shivam to keep an eye on his mistress Reema, played by Mrinalini Sharma, a Pakistani girl who is a victim of human trafficking. However, the meeting of Shivam with Reema only turns into a flashback of painful memories from Shivam's past.

The movie here goes into flashback. Shivam, a small time criminal, meets Aaliya played by Shreya Saran in a chance encounter and immediately falls in love with her. The criminal, Shivam puts in an effort to reform himself, but unfortunately, Aaliya's father catches the two lovers. What follows devastates Shivam's life and haunts him forever. The movie now switches back to the present, and Shivam is continually haunted by his past. While keeping a watchful eye on Reema, Shivam discovers that she has a lover. With this fact uncovered, Shivam's boss orders him to kill her. For the first time in his life, the trigger-happy assassin goes weak in the knees and fails to pull the trigger on the innocent girl, who dreams to live a free life.

Shivam's slumbering conscience is awoken. What follows is Shivam's rebellion against his gangster boss. Director Mohit Suri has harnessed the talent of music composer Pritam Chakraborty for the film. Though Chakraborty's music is not very good but due to import of Sufi flavor in his composition the songs are average in their effect. 'Awarapan' showcases the acting talent of Emraan Hashmi. For the first time in his career Hashmi steps out of his usual romantic boy image and plays a serious and intense role with full confidence. His performance in 'Awarapan' proves that he is perhaps one of the most under-rated talents in the Bollywood. The director partly succeeds in translating a captivating story on celluloid. There are many scenes and sequences that are intelligently and artistically conceived. The cinematography is appealing and the background music and songs are good.
