The director, Paritosh Painter, who previously wrote the script of Indra Kumar's laughathon Dhamaal has also acted/penned/directed a number of comedy plays. Paying Guests is his directorial debut. For him Non-stop masala entertainers rules."I've produced plays keeping in mind the fact that the audience watching it should return home with a smile. And my first film is also an unadulterated entertainer. I can assure you one thing. You'll step out of the auditorium with a big smile on your face. This laughathon will bowl you," he quoted with extreme enthusiasm.

Shreyas Talpade who has played a 'woman' in almost 60% of this film has always wanted to play a woman, at least once in his career and “Paying Guest” fulfilled his dream. Moreover Javed Jaffrey and he enjoyed dressing up and acting like a woman. “There's a thin line that divides class and crass and we didn't want people to feel disgusted, so we played the parts with utmost feminine charm," he added.

The music of the film basically complements its narration and adds comedy zing in it. It does not require a music score but a song or two definitely make its presence felt in the comical marathon. Paying Guest music has the consistency factor which ensures that the listeners get what they would have expected.

“Jack and Jill”, the first track where all the eight protagonists are decked up as school kids is sung by Shaan and rapped by Earl D'Souza is a fusion with old-age musical style. The song keeps the fun quotient intact and also has a remix version of it. The title track is a tribute to the music maestro Bappi Lahiri. If the music lovers are looking for an innovate music track, would be slightly disappointed but otherwise the number is foot tapping and fun. 'Ya Rabula Rabbi', another catchy number sung by Sonu Nigam with rap by Earl D'Souza and Amrita Kak slipping for two minutes into the song. 'Nazar Se Nazaria', sung by Sunidhi Chauhan, the track which shares similarity factor with 'Crazy Kiya Re'. Besides trying too hard to be fun and frolic, it fails to make an impression, has less to offer and can be easily categorized in an average item number category. The track also finds a 'remix version' for itself! Besides the songs like 'Jack & Jill', 'Paying Guests' and 'Ya Rabula Rabbi', which if played on the big screen would ensure not a single dull moment for the audience, otherwise the music of Paying Guest is surely not the one to create history.
