Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor, the real life lovebirds, are coming to your theatres together as a part of Rensil D’Silva directorial debut Kurbaan. Penned by the director himself, the story of Kurabaan is set against the backdrop of global terrorism and there have been rumours about Kurbaan having much resemblance with Yash Raj Film’s New York.
The story of Kurbaan revolves around two main characters Avantika (Kareena Kapoor) and Ehsaan Khan (Saif Ali Khan). Avantika (Kareena Kapoor) is a Psychology professor in New York who has to return to India to attend to her ailing father. She meets Ehsaan Khan when she somehow manages to get a job at the prestigious Delhi University.Ehsaan happens to be a substitute teacher at the same University.
Without much of humdrum, Avantika’s father agrees to let her daughter get married to Ehsaan, who is a Muslim guy. Exposition surfaces once they start a new life in New York. Avantika gets to know the strange customs of a conservative Muslim family and a revelation dawned on her that everyone blindly abides by the code of conduct set by the family head.
Seeeds of distrust are sown within Kareena as she meets another young woman, Salma. She warns Avantika not to trust anyone claiming that there is a grave threat to her own life. The succeeding incidents make a big impact on Avantika’s life as she encounters a series of shock one after the other. Complexities get compounded and she starts moving ahead to a point from where she can hardly return.
Besides Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor, the movie also has a line of established actors including actor Vivek Oberoi, Om Puri, Rupinder Nagra, and Kirron Kher. Kurbaan is the first Karan Johar production, which is far different from his signature romantic flicks. The movie is shot extensively in Philadelphia and Brooklyn.
Music direction of Kurban is rendered by Salim-Sulaiman, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and he has got the support from a bunch of eminent singers like Sonu Nigam, Shreya Ghoshal, Kailash Kher, Sukhwinder Singh, Salim Merchant, along with others. Even Kareena Kapoor has lent her voice in a song.
Saif admits that Kurbaan has been a tough and a strong challenge for him and feels the film to be a stupendous and a deadly one. Releasing on 20th November, the movie is expected to be a realistic portrayal of the doldrums that we attribute to the contemporary society.
