Fighting for one's rights begets a series of hindrances and once the justice is meted out...the struggle seems worth the effort. 'Kissan' is an upcoming movie which delves deep into the psyche of Indian farmers and explores their strong bonding with their farms- their source of sustenance. Director Puneet Suri, who has earlier directed movies like 'I... Proud to Be an Indian' and others upholds the perennial conflict raged between the farmers and the industrialists about acquiring land.
The title of the movie is self-explanatory as it narrates a journey of a farmer in Punjab. Jackie Shroff, who plays Dayal Singh in the movie, has devoted his life towards maintaining the farmlands he inherited from his ancestors and his attachment with the land is no less deeper than one's love for his country. It gives meaning to his existence. His two sons Aman (played by Arbaaz Khan) and Jigar (played by Sohail Khan) grew up together but their upbringing has been starkly different.

While Aman is a contemplative adult, who measures before taking every step, his brother Jigar is exactly opposite. Thoughtless aggression and promptness are his two other names. Dayal Singh groomed one of his children as lawyer and the other one is grown up as a farmer. The plot gets the first instance of complication when a noted industrialist Sohan Seth (Dilip Tahil) appears in the scene intending to confiscate the village lands by tempting the villagers with money. One of the village goons becomes his aide and the partners in crime went ahead with their malicious machinations.
Dayal Singh's family did not remain unaffected as the sway of Sohan Seth infiltrated every corner of the village. The family became divided in their opinions and the schematic industrialist who convincingly incited Aman to act against the interest of his family. The situation metamorphosed into a family conflict with Aman and Sohan Seth together fighting against the combined strength of Dayal Singh and his son Jigar.

Will Aman realize the importance of relationship? What has fate in store for the vulnerable farmers? Will Dayal Singh and Jigar win over the shrewd contriver Sohan Seth?. The movie aims to find answer to all these unavoidable questions.
With Punjab as the background and rustic life as the main focus, 'Kissan' is expected to have the very rural flavour in its execution. Pastoral life of Punjab and realistic portrayal of naive farmers will also hold a special significance in the movie. Impressive band of singers including Shaan, Shreya Ghosal, Sunidhi Chauhan, Roop Kumar Rathod and others have lent their voice to create the homespun melody.

'Kissan' is expected to be something more than just a story of a farmer. It can be a story about struggle, a tale about realization and a documentation on fighting for the rights.
