Bollywood has not seen much of a caper thriller these days and Vishal Bharadwaj's upcoming directorial venture Kaminey is expected to call the revival of this difficult-to-portray genre. Kaminey is the story about two indistinguishable twins, suffering from speech defects. The twins in their early twenties decide to leave behind the immorality and move ahead into a life of opulence and pride. Their resemblance in their ideas is limited since they have to deep hatred for each other. Shahid Kapoor plays the role of the twins with one brother having a sweet, chocolaty disposition and the other is a dark character, which verbalizes lots of curses. The story revolves around the lives of these two brothers, as they chase their dreams and love. They never anticipated their unison at the end, which actually happens and they begin to realise that they only have the company of each another.

Priyanka Chopra, like many other characters in the movie, dons a minimal make-up look as her character of a middle class Marathi girl demands from her. She essays the role of Sweety, (her name does justice to her bubbly nature) who is not only a bindaas girl but also someone who is traditional at heart. She plays the sister of a gangster. Much of hard work has come Shahid Kapoor's way since he presented two contrary characters together. The dark character of Shahid Kapoor (read Charlie) is sporting long hair and appears bulked up, while Guddu, the guy with a suave temperament, has the actual cute look of Shahid Kapoor. Ever since the first theatrical promo of the film hit the screens, there has been guesswork about Priyanka Chopra’s look in Kaminey. What makes Kaminey different for Priyanka Chopra is her staunch Marathi mulgee act and an opportunity to work with director Vishal Bharadwaj, who is branded for bestowing an entirely novel look to his leading ladies. The movie also stars Amole Gupte, the writer and creative director of Taare Zameen Par, as the main baddie.

Recently it was reported that the Kaminey’s narration comprised quite a few expletives, and hence, Vishal Bharadwaj, the director, was asked to edit all the curses used in film. But all the allegations were denied by a crew member of the film stating that the UTV knows how to package a film and showcase it to the audience. Moreover Kaminey is a mainstream film and could not have afforded to include expletives.

Vishal Dadlani (of Vishal-Shekhar duo) has been roped in to sing the main song in the film. The track in discussion is 'Tan Tana' that witnesses Vishal Dadlani flexing his vocal chords. Vishal Dadlani has gifted many hit songs in the recent past, among which most popular being 'Jaane Kyun' and 'Khabar Nahi'.Also featuring the voice of Sukhwinder Singh, 'Tan Tana' is pictured on both Charlie and Guddu. 'Tan Tana' is already a hit.

Though the bold title of this grotesque thriller was administered to register itself in the minds of movie buffs, the maverick director, Vishal Bharadwaj, who is credited for creating brilliant dark characters (like Langda Tyagi in Omakara) jokes that the title is in sync with the plot of the movie, since every character in the movie has dark traits in them. He further explains that, while some are lovable Kaminey, others are loathsome, but meanness, lust and desire are the common traits among all the characters.

He describes that dealing with such a subtle subject has been meticulous and unsympathetic task as it demands grasping each character in the flow, and making them unforgettable, without overlooking the commercial aspects. Cinematographer (Tassaduq Hussain) and Costume Designer (Dolly Ahluwalia) have put a concerted effort to add to the finesse. It is perhaps for the first time we will get to see different costumes fitting on all the characters of the movie. With a completely different technique of story telling, this dark comedy is expected to sustain its pre-release popularity.
