What generally happens at the funeral? Tears, sob speeches, melancholia...? Wrong! The funeral of Daddy Cool Douglas Lazarus, in Goa, is different. Especially when the coffin makers deliver the wrong body. His good son Steven Lazarus (Suniel Shetty), is a wannabe writer. He gives a memorable funeral to his father by orating a eulogy, including the description of the rivers of Goa. Steven's younger brother Brian (Ashish Chowdhry) is a sophisticated, successful and popular writer from Mumbai.
He shies away from sharing responsibility for his mother, saying that he is not ready and barely has money to support himself and his dogs. Nancy (Aarti Chabria) Steven's wife is trying to get away from her mother-in-law Mrs. Lazarus (Suhasini Mulay). In this process she tries to close a house deal with the help of a rather "comfortable'' estate agent Pinto (Vijay Patkar). Her mother in law however ignorant of the fact, lives up to title admirably.
Michael (Aftab Shivdasani), a prospective groom to a cousin, Maria (Tulip Joshi), is fidgety about meeting his to be father-in-law(Naseer Abdullah ). Due to a hallucinogenic drug given to him by Maria's hippie brother Harry's (Chunky Pandey) out of bottle of "Relaxo”, he comes completely spaced out.
Jenny (Kim Sharma) , is a suspicious wife who discovers her husband Carlos (Javed Jaffrey) begging forgiveness from the sexy aspiring model Ayesha (Sophie Chodhry). Whereas Ayesha, is asked to bestow her favours on a man in a black suit, in order to be a part of an ad film. She later ended doing a seductive act in a room full of potential employers.
Roadside Romeo kind of wannabe boyfriend, Jim (Vrajesh Hirjee) presumes that a funeral can be an opportunity to draw Maria's attention towards him.
An old Uncle Murphy (Prem Chopra) in a wheelchair still feels that he can get the girls by practicing "rapchick.”
The twist comes when the "Blackmailer" Andrew (Rajpal Yadav) enters, who has a shocking secret about the betrayed Douglas "Daddy Cool" Lazarus (Sharat Saxena).
In a complete mixture of madness and chaos, a laughter riot is bound to happen.
The music of the film has been composed by Raghav Sachar and Farhad-Sajid. The title track “Daddy Cool” sung by Raghav Sachar and Paroma P. Dasgupta, is high on lyrical quality. Both the singers attract with the vocals. Although the remix of the track is a big disappointment and is not upto the mark. Another track, ‘Nasha Nasha, sung by Neha, is toppled with Hinglish lyrics. The music is poor and the lyrics are not appealing.
The album has two more numbers from the 2007 blockbuster comedy ‘Dhamaal’ – 'Dekho Dekho’ and ‘Miss India Marte Mujh Pe '. 'Life Life', sung by Farhad is a fast paced track. Though the lyrics are pretty ordinary and has a deja vu feel to it.
It was rumored that Daddy Cool has been inspired by the English film – Death At A Funeral. To this the makers Indra Kumar and Ashok Thakeria and (Maruti Pictures) who have made comedy capers like Masti and Dhamaal, have clarified that they have duly obtained permission from the producers of the English film (Death At A Funeral) to produce and release the film Daddy Cool across the world.
Watch it for laugh a minute riot. One is bound to get confused whether it a 'fun'eral, or the fun is real?
