99 is a “smart comedy” set in 1999, where all the characters are bound by the common feeling of getting stuck at 99 and never seem to make it to the century in their lives. The movie is inspired by the real events and is fast-paced, realistic and funny. In other words it is as much as “what could have been” than “what really happened” which makes it a historical fiction. It is a hilarious ride which is spread over two cities with colourful and realistic characters, toppled up with unbelievable circumstances, small time crooks, big time conspiracies, fateful car crashes, a budding romance and a controversy brewing in the background.

In the movie Kunal Khemu as Sachin is full of ambitious ideas but what is lacking are the ideas on how to implement those big ides. His friend Zaramud is not helping him either but instead is making matters worse. Soha Ali Khan as Pooja is like any other typical Delhi girl who has a “wild streak” to her personality and is stylish, confident and vivacious! In the film the two con men played by Kunal Khemu and Cyrus Broacha enters Pooja's life and they happily joins her for her quest of adding some excitement in her life.

Cyrus Broacha as Zaramud is a bit of contradiction as despite the impression that he gives, he isn't all that tactful or loaded with commonsense and lands himself as well as Sachin in trouble most of the times. Boman Irani as Rahul is an ordinary guy with an ordinary job. He thinks that he has figured out how luck works because of the extraordinary quality that he possesses of always having the luck of the draw in his favour. But lately he too is not sure anymore. Vinod Khanna as JC likes to live life king size. Be it by hook or by crook he always wants to have an edge over everyone and everything he deals with.

The music of the film “99” was released by Saregama India Ltd. along with People Picture at the entertainment capital of India, Mumbai. The music is reflective of the mood that prevails throughout the film – hilarious and colourful.
