I have realised all my dreams: Yash Chopra
Yash Chopra
Yash Chopra
Yash Chopra, renowned filmmaker was recently in the capital to present momentos to the past presidents of FICCI Ladies Organisation (FLO). The Legendary director is the chairman of the FICCI Entertainment Committee as well. Two days back we watched with great pride as Yash Chopra got the highest honour given by France 'The Legion of Honor” for his remarkable work in building bridges across nations through cinema. Yash Chopra's career as a director began in 1959 and in 1973 he turned producer. Since then he has given wonderful films like Silsila, Deewar, Lamhen, Chandni, Dil To Pagal Hai and much more. While he was in the city, Headlines India reporter Kriti Verma caught the candid filmmaker. Excerpts:

Anwar Hussein  How does Yash Chopra see himself?
YC: I see myself as an ordinary person.

Anwar Hussein  What is it like getting the highest honor by France?
YC: I feel very happy, naturally. I thank President Nicolas Sarkozy for considering me worthy of this honour. Also, I am thankful to my brother B R Chopra who is everything to me. What I am today is because of him. He taught me filmmaking and made my dreams coming true.
Anwar Hussein  Though your wife was present at the ceremony, your sons were absent, any reason?
YC: My elder son Aditya was busy shooting for Shahrukh-Anushka starrer Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi and Uday is unfortunately not keeping well.
Anwar Hussein  Many Indian films are now being nominated for International awards, how do you feel about it?
YC: It feels glad to see our films being liked by international audience. It's a huge success for Indian cinema.
Anwar Hussein  What do you feel about the films that are being made these days in our country?
YC: Different kinds of films are being made these days. I appreciate every director's potential, but the only thing I would like to say is that a film must be sensible and have Indian values.
Anwar Hussein  Are you happy with the audience's response to Thoda Pyar Thoda Magic?
YC: Some films receive good response of the audience, some get average while some fair bad. Success of a film totally depends on the audience. Nothing can be done about it. But, I take every response in a positive way.
Anwar Hussein  Now, after Thoda Pyar Thoda Magic, what else is there in the pipeline?
YC: There is Bachna E Haseenon all set to release on August, 15. Then we have Road Side Romeo for Diwali followed by Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, directed by my son Aditya Chopra. Rab Ne... is scheduled to release in December.
Anwar Hussein  A film you wish you would have made?
YC: I have made almost all the films, which I ever imagined. There is nothing left in mind which has not been filmed by me. What I have in mind, I have been successful in portraying it on the silver screen.
Anwar Hussein  Your views on women in our country...
YC:Throughout the history, women have aimed for a recognized place in society and today, they have been successful in achieving the same. We have women power in army, in politics as chief ministers, in medical science as doctors, as scientists, in Bollywood and everywhere else one can think of. They are playing every role, be it a mother, a wife or a daughter along with the roles of a corporate manager, teacher or anything in government and private sector.
Anwar Hussein  Any message for our viewers.
YC: Yes, when I am talking of women, I would like to make people aware of the fact that a woman is the best thing that exists in this world. She is the best gift a man could ever get. And therefore she must be respected in all circumstances.
