Abbas Tyrewala’s directorial venture “Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na” has proved to be the year’s biggest blockbuster so far. Not surprisingly, hot shot producers are now lining up to meet him with their respective projects. Abbas is set to call the shots on his second film, which we hear, is an adult romantic comedy. The scriptwriter-turned-director was in the capital recently attending Osian's-Cinefan Film Festival of Asian and Arab Cinema. HI! reporter Kriti Verma talked to him about Osian's, Jaane Tu.. and more. Excerpts:

Hi Interview  Is this your first visit to Osian's Cinefan?
Abbas: No, this is my second visit to Osian's Cinefan. I earlier visited this festival two years ago. There was a talent campus and I along with many new writers, was invited for an interaction with senior writers. It was a wonderful meeting with eminent writers. This time I along with my team was invited because my movie was supposed to be screen. But unfortunately my team couldn't make up and I landed alone. But I must say, it's great to be here as we receive the best hospitality at this place.
Hi Interview  Did you expect, Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, your first directorial venture to become the biggest hit of the year so far?
Abbas: I hoped that the film will do well and I am happy that it received great appreciation. I was getting positive vibes on the sets that this movie would fetch good response from the audience. Though we released the prints conservatively, I was confident because as a team we had put in a lot of hardwork.
Hi Interview  You have scripted many films, so what made you decide that you want to finally set your eyes on direction?
Abbas: I made the transition from writing to direction because I was loosing touch with my subject- people. Also, I was completely sick of it and couldn't think of writing another word for anyone. I needed a new challenge and thought I must do something different in life. That's how I turned to direction.
Hi Interview  How has been your transition from writing to directing?
Abbas: As a writer, I was only responsible for my work but as a director I have to talk to people, encourage them and know what they are doing. Here, my responsibility increases many folds.
Hi Interview  How did you discover Imran, Genelia and other new actors for the film?
Abbas: It was a tough job. My casting director Pakhi found Imran and Genelia. It almost took one and a half year to find these actors who could really bring the characters to life. I am happy that I made the right decision.
Hi Interview  How was your experience having a producer like Aamir Khan?
Abbas: Honestly, I didn't get to see too much of him because at that time Aamir was busy with the shooting of Taare Zameen Par. But yes, he had the vision and had been supportive throughout the film. He provided us with the best locations, technicians and all that we needed. Both of us have really worked very hard to come up with a good film.
Hi Interview  Share your fun moments during the film?
Abbas:  I really don't remember any fun moment because we were working around 14-16 hours a day. When later on I saw the making of the film, I saw myself demonstrating many scenes to Genelia and I even don't remember that. I felt it like a strangers' experience. I don't remember anything.
Hi Interview  Was Imran given any special treatment on the sets?
Abbas: No, not all. I worked with Imran just like I did it with all the other actors in the film, no matter that he is Aamir's nephew. Infact, Aamir also wanted me to be the same as I am with other actors.
Hi Interview  Are you people planning a sequel to Jaane Tu....... ?
Abbas: No, that's not true. Though I used to say this jokingly that I would make a sequel of it, but seriously speaking I don't believe in repeating the success of a film by means of a sequel.
Hi Interview  You found someone special during the making of the film. How did it happen?
Abbas: Yes, I found Pakhi. I didn't know Pakhi before this film. We just met and there was an immediate connection. I met her at a coffee shop and asked her to assist me on the film and before we knew it, one month later we were in love.
Hi Interview  Which is your favorite song from the film?
Abbas: I have written all the songs myself, but the song “Dil Kabhi Ganda... is my favorite song from the film.
Hi Interview  Your all time favourite romantic film?
Abbas: There are many films. I really like Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge, Hum Apke Hain Kaun, Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak and Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander. I also like Yes Boss.
Hi Interview  What else is there in the pipeline?
Abbas: My second film is an adult romantic comedy. I have made Jaane Tu..., a clean film catering to 20-21 year old people. Now, I want to get naughtier with my next film. It will be a naughty adult comedy for the 28-30 year old audience. Though I am a serious kind of a person and my natural instinct takes me to the darker zone, I know, once I am involved in making of dark films, I won't be able to make a come back with some romantic comedy movie. Therefore, I want to complete it first.
