We love tea; in fact our love for this energizing drink has its own story. Discussions continued, arguments ensued and decisions have been taken over a cup of tea. It has been our companion always and it can be said most of us are addicted to it. But do we mind, no not at all. Now our love for tea is gradually spilling over the social networking site - Twitter.

Chai (tea) tweets or chai posts are getting popular. You heard it right, Indian tweeple (people as they are referred on Twitter) are connecting with each other through chai tweets. A tweet which usually is some lyrics of a song with the word chai used in between with the hash tag just before the word. Sometimes you also get witty reference to current news with chai thrown in between. The desi touch is added to each tweet. Can we say we are lending an Indian character to Twitter?

What is so unique about this behaviour. Nothing much only that it happens everyday. A group of people keep on exchanging tweets each presented in an innovative way. These tweets are mostly sent to number of people and generally not restricted to a limited group but keeps on changing whenever someone finds it interesting or is willing to join. People have in fact created lists of '#chai gang' as well. The chai tweets are addictive; once people start it goes on like a viral and continues till the tempo doesn't die down.

How other users view this? It may seem senseless to some, they may think what purpose this may be serving. For some it may be too much of indulgence in fun considering the fact that Twitter means serious business. But at the same time if you observe the trend then you would find the tweets are not only for fun but also for networking. People are expanding their network over chai tweets. Since number of Twitter handles are used and the chai tweets get good retweets or mentions it is actually promotion in a unique way.

Twitter has a unique behaviour and the reasons for its success may be many. One of them being the cohesive factor which somewhat binds all the randomness. Most of the times it has been equated to a cafe where various group of people are talking with each other. You get to hear different kinds of noise. So this time this particular noise of tea or chai is actually engaging a large group of people. Whether this noise or behaviour is good or bad discussions and debates may continue over a cup of tea but this time though in the virtual world and the subject will be of course the chai tweet.
