New Delhi, May 28: The Supreme Court today admitted a petition challenging the Uttar Pradesh government's decision to privatise 11 state-run sugar mills of the Uttar Pradesh State Sugar Corp Ltd.

Declining to stay the opening of the bids on June 3, an apex court vacation bench headed by Justice G.S. Singhvi and comprising Justice C.K. Prasad said all actions of the state government in the sale of sugar mills would be subject to the final outcome of the case.

The petition filed by journalist Rajiv Kumar Mishra challenges the insertion of section 3-A and 3-B by the UP (Uttar Pradesh) Sugar Undertakings (Acquisition) (Amendment) Act 2009, empowering the state government and the corporation to disinvest stakes in the mills. (IANS)
