India and China sign hotline deal

Beijing: On Wednesday India inked a deal with a China that would enable a hotline to be set up and be used for the purposes of communication by the respective Prime Ministers of both the nations. However, both the countries are yet to voice unanimous opinions on several matters of critical importance that could well have a bearing on the bilateral relationship of the Asian giants.

While talking with Yang Jiechi, the Foreign Minister of China, and Wen Jiabao, the Chinese Premier, S.M. Krishna, the Union External Affairs Minister has asked China to re-examine its stance vis-à-vis India gaining a permanent place at the United Nations Security Council. He also expressed Indian concerns regarding the assistance being provided by China to various projects that are on at Pakistan occupied Kashmir. He has also expressed worry at the way China has been providing stapled visas to people from Jammu and Kashmir.

Nirupama Rao has said that China has repeated its sympathy and support for India’s ambitions to play an important role in the context of the United Nations as well as other matters of global importance. They had also voiced the same opinion during 2008 when Manmohan Singh had gone on a visit.
