After Delhi talks, Rajapaksa heads to Shimla |

| New Delhi, June 7: After wrapping up official talks in New Delhi, Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa will on Thursday head to the cooler climes of Shimla, an unusual destination for visiting heads of state.
Rajapaksa, who arrives here on Tuesday, will travel to Chandigarh en route to Shimla on Thursday morning after holding wide-ranging talks with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh the previous day.
In Shimla, he will meet Governor Urmila Singh who will host a reception in his honour.
Not many visiting heads of state go to Shimla, a hill station and former summer capital of the British Raj. They normally prefer Agra or add Mumbai and Bangalore to their itinerary.
Afghan President Hamid Karzai is one of the few foreign leaders to visit Shimla, largely because of emotional reasons as he was educated in the hill town.
Rajapaksa winds up his four-day trip to India and returns to Colombo on Friday. (IANS) |
