Legal nuclear liability cap in India the third highest in world |

| New Delhi, Aug 26: The legal threshold for nuclear liability in India stands at $439 million. It is right behind USA and the Republic of Korea and United Kingdom, which have caps in the region of $452 million each. The nuclear liability cap for USA is $12,590 million.
China lies at the fourth spot with a legal nuclear liability limit of $162 million. These data have been revealed in a survey that was executed by the Confederation of Indian Industry. The survey has also revealed that countries like Russia, Germany and Japan have not specified any amount in this case.
The study was carried out on the basis of nine parameters such as nuclear liability law, state guarantee or cover, strict liability, additional state compensation and channeling of liability exclusively to operator. Some other factors like supplementary amount from international fund, right of recourse against supplier, legal liability limit and operators insurance amount were included as well. India has come third with respect to insurance amount for the operators as well with a limit of $320 million. |
