| New Delhi, June 22: Just when India is bracing itself to become the member of the Nuclear Suppliers Group, the proposed China-Pakistan nuclear deal seems to spell cast a shadow over its hope.
As per the reports, India has been calculative in its approach towards its mission of getting included in the Nuclear Suppliers Group. In a bid to be recognized as a formal member of the group, India had told the NSG that it has harmonized its laws and regulations to be in sync with the global body.
India had also expressed its readiness to be a member of the group.
In the meantime China has offended the 45-member group with its decision to build two new nuclear reactors for Pakistan. According to Indian officials, no forthright protest has come up against China's policy although there is a growing discontentment among the growing nations.
The US is the only country which has openly opposed the proposed deal between China and Pakistan. France may raise objections at the NSG meeting later this week.
Indian government is certainly brooding over the issue and sharpening its initiative against the proposed nuclear deal but it has not yet revealed its hand. It is likely to see India wait for the NSG meeting and observe the view taken in this meeting. |
