| New Delhi: Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad raised the issue of difficulty in posting MBBS doctors in rural areas as he pointed out that the proposed Bachelor of Rural Health course was mainly aimed at regions where only nurses and midwives were available and the doctors were reluctant to go.
While attending a meeting with a delegation of the Indian Medical Association (IMA), Azad pointed out the difficulty to the members, who had earlier opposed the introduction of such a course since it will collide with MBBS doctors.
Earlier, the IMA demanded a diploma course for rural medicine and not a degree course. It had also suggested that the institutes teaching the course should be called schools should have separate registration for the rural doctors.
Azad however refused to comply with all their demands and stated that making the rural medicine course a diploma would certainly dilute the importance of the subject. |
