Himachal CM calls for Anemia-free state |

| Hamirpur (Himachal Pradesh): Prem Kumar Dhumal, Chief Minister of Himachal Pardesh inaugurated the two day 4th State level Conference cum CME Him Medicon-2009 organized by the Indian Medical Association by lighting ceremonial lamp at NIT Auditorium, Hamirpur today.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony, Chief Minister gave a clarion call to make Himachal Pradesh Anemia free by year 2013 as the campaign had been launched on October 2, 2008 and one block in each district would be identified for the programme implementation from December 2, 2009. He said that Rs. 633.14 crore was being spent under Health Sector during current financial year.
Dhumal added that 2.98 lakh BPL families had been covered under Health Insurance Scheme and 80,242 families issued Smart Cards. He asserted that all such programmes aim at making HP a self reliant in all respects, health being one of the major sectors. He said that 51 First Referral Units (FRUs) had been set up in the State.
Chief Minister said that substantial increase had been made in health sector and the budget had been increased from Rs. 431.10 crore in 2007-08 to Rs.593.11 crore. He said that there was a strong network of about 4000 health institutions catering to rural health in the State. He also sought active involvement of NGOs to successfully implement 'Beti Hai Anmol' Programme to save girl child in the society.
Prof. Dhumal said that State Government was committed to bring about qualitative improvement in the vocational education system to produce more competent professionals. He called medical a most pious of all avocations. He urged the medical practitioners to rededicate their service towards the society to make the society hale and hearty in all respects. He said that ESI Medical College and hospital was coming up at Ner Chowk while three more medical colleges at Una, Hamirpur and Sarkaghat would be set up in private sector.
Prof. Dhumal said that all endeavour of the State Government would meet its objective if supported by public in general and NGOs like Indian Medical Association (IMA). He urged for cooperative hand for checking female foeticides, TB, HIV-AIDS, H1N1 besides launching immunization programmes in right perspective. He appealed to dedicate their services to the people selflessly.
Besides honouring 'Trisha Shishakan Society' for their active involvement in Anemia Eradication Programme in the district, Chief Minister also released the souvenir brought out by the organizers to mark the Him Medicon-2009. He also released the poster of the campaign being launched to check female foeticide in the State.
Smt. Urmil Thakur, local MLA, Padamshree Dr. D.S. Rana, Chief Patron, of IMA and HOD of Sri Ganga Ram Hospital were also present to grace the occasion along with Dr. S.K. Nanda, President State IMA Chapter, Dr. Atul Mahajan, Secretary, IMA, H.P and Dr. SPS Thakur, Organising Secretary proposed vote of thanks. |
