| Kolkata: Issuing of e-health cards to every newborn, facility to get Birth Certificates online and integrating the medical history of every individual are some of the plans that Health Ministry intends to implement in the upcoming days. West Bengal's Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Govt of India, Dinesh Trivedi declared these in a recent conclave organised by Lions Clubs International on SightFirst Hospitals in Kolkata.
While talking about the initiatives taken by Indian Government to combat the health issues, Trivedi was vocal about a meagre budget allocation for health ministry (around 1 percent of the total GDP) and stated that it is the sense of complacency and lack of understanding on emotional plane are the major causes hindering the effective implementation of health programmes. He stressed on numerous initiatives undertaken by the government during the 11th Five Year Plan which include appointment of eye surgeons, granting aids to NGOs for eye-related diseases, installation of eye operation theatres, establishing mobile centres in districts and allocation of Rs750 per children for eye-treatments.
Expressing his concern about the highly unhygienic conditions of state-run hospitals and health centres, Trivedi urged Lions Clubs International and NGOs to look into the matter and approach the authorities to undertake the management operations of these hospitals. Explaining that 80 percent of healthcare services in India are provided by the Private sector, he also asserted that the ministry requires a more stringent approach towards raising the standard of healthcare. He made it clear that Health Ministry has to encroach on various other sectors since a healthy condition is dependant on multiple other factors working together including clean water, sanitation, and education.
As Trivedi declared the online medical records management system and e-health cards, he added that he is constantly in touch with both the authorities of Health Ministry including his senior Ghulam Nabi Azad and the concerned persons for the technological requirement. Assuring people of the effective implementation of the policies, Trivedi affirmed that Lions Clubs International and NGOs should take full advantage of these schemes in their mission. |
