Govt may approve 4 pvt hospitals to treat swine flu patients

New Delhi: After the inspection of the isolation wards at Indraprastha Apollo, Moolchand Medcity, Sir Gangaram and St Stephens by the state health department, Delhi government is geared up to give nod to these hospitals to admit H1N1 influenza victims by this weekend.

The inspected hospitals are in the process of considering the swine flu protocols that are required to be pursued while treating the victims. All the hospitals are ready with the isolation facilities, although some of the minor alterations have been identified by the team of experts from Delhi government. Kiran Walia, Delhi health minister confirmed that the government will take a decision by this weekend.

The initiative is the result of the patients' desire to get admitted in private hospitals. However, the infrastructure in all allotted government hospitals are upgraded.

Dr Walia added that the four designated hospitals will offer 36 beds for the swine flu affected patients. The distribution of beds in these hospitals are as, Moolchand is 10, Apollo 6, Gangaram 10 and St Stephens 10. The rates will be decided by the hospital authorities and the tamiflu stock will be provided by the government.

Chairman and board of directors of Sir Gangaram Hospital, Dr B K Rao said that depending on the amount of patients and their plight, the hospitals authorities will appoint dedicated faculty for the isolation wards.
