New Delhi: China has taken the top spot from India in the diabetes hall of fame. Looks like India would not be too affected having been dispossessed of the top spot in this case.

As per a study based on population there are 92.4 million adults in China who suffer from diabetes. This is double than the previous estimates. Worse still, 150 million adults in China are on verge of being affected with diabetes.

As per figures brought out by the International Diabetes Federation it was calculated that in October 2009 China should have had 43 .2 million people suffering from diabetes much lesser than the estimated 50.8 million for India.

As per researchers 50 million men were suffering from China. In case of women the number was 42 million. In most case diabetes was not detected just like it is India.

As per prominent healthcare experts in India, such as Dr. Anoop Misra, director with the department of diabetes in Fortis Healthcare, the figures are not indicative of the actual state of the disease. He said that a similar survey needs to be conducted in India as well so that the true condition of the disease is properly reflected. He estimated that almost 50 million people in India suffer from the disease while double the number are about to afflicted in a short span of time.
