| Kolkata: The total number of swine flu cases rose to 28 in West Bengal after eight people, including an eight-year-old girl, tested positive for the H1N1 virus on Friday, a senior state health department official said.
"The figure of swine flu infection climbed to 28 today (Friday). Altogether 12 confirmed positive and three suspected swine flu affected patients are admitted in the Beliaghata Infectious Diseases (ID) Hospital," state's nodal officer for swine flu Tapas Sen told media.
According to sources, an eight-year-old girl, the daughter of a medical practitioner in the government-run N.R.S. Hospital, was also admitted to the isolation ward of the Bangur Hospital where a clinic was set up to cope up with the rising cases of the flu.
However, there has been so far no report of any fatality in the state.
State Chief Secretary Ashok Mohan Chakraborty and Health Secretary Samar Ghosh Friday held a meeting at the state secretariat Writers Buildings here to assess the situation.
They would meet again on Aug 18 over the swine flu issue.
Meanwhile, the state's school education department issued advisories to the district school authorities about the essential measures required to be taken to combat the infection. (IANS) |
