New Delhi: To help mitigate sufferings caused by the drought, the government is mulling to provide more than 100 days of jobs assured to villagers under United Progressive Alliance's flagship National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS), Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar said on Wednesday.

The government "is thinking that in the districts declared by the state governments as drought-affected 100 days of employment (in a year) for NREGS will be extended", Pawar told journalist Karan Thapar in an interview on a news channel.

Asked about the period to be extended, Pawar said that it was yet to be decided but "the proposal for extension from 100 days is very much there". (IANS)
